Last week Valve announced a new Mod for Steam was releasing a demo. I have heard about this game a while ago, and had been waiting for it. The Game is called: Dystopia. It is a FPS (What else would it be?) set in the Sci-Fi world of CyberPunk. CyberPunk is a subGenre of Sci-Fi that I have been a fan of for years. The Matrix movies are considered CyberPunk.
The Action takes places in two completely different Worlds, the real world and CyberSpace. CyberSpace is insane! Gravity has no meaning, you go up walls and you can't tell which way is up (Does it matter?) You can battle other Deckers (Hackers) in CyberSpace or prevent them and or slow them down from hacking into thier objectives.
The two teams are the Punks (CyberPunks) and the Corps (Corporate Security). The Corps have to prevent the Punks from Hacking into the System, breaking in and destroying the Core. The Punks of course, have to hack in through Cyberspace terminals and then break into and take over sections to get to the Core.
After you choose your team you have to choose a Class (Light, Medium, Heavy). Each Class has different strengths and weaknesses. They each get their own choices of weapons and Implants.
Light:
- Shotgun (My favorite)
- Laser Sniper Rifle
- Bolt Gun
Medium:
- Assault Rifle (Spray and Pray w/zoom)
- Grenade Launcher (Remote Detonation)
- MK808 Semi-Auto Rifle (Better Sniper Rifle)
Heavy:
- Ion Cannon (Insanely powerful and accurate)
- Rocket Launcher (Rocks!)
- Mini-Gun (Devastating)
Each Weapon and class are very well balanced. They all serve a purpose and a good team will have some of each.
The Implants range from Stealth (Partial Invisibility) to Infrared Vision (can see Stealthed Players) a Medical implant that heals you and your teammates, a CyberDeck to use for Hacking into CyberSpace, a Jumping/speed implant. Some implants can't be used by all Classes and not all can be used at the same time. It is designed to make it as fair as possible.
Gameplay is fast and furious as you move to take over their spawn points and get to the next objective. I don't want to give away too much! Go get the game and try it yourself. If you don't have Half-Life 2, this is one reason to go get it! This game is so good that Valve is considering releasing it through Steam! I would pay for this game, serisously.
